Art therapy
Creating happy memories
The fondest memories we have of Will during his treatment are hearing his laughter ring out when he spent time with the dedicated play specialists at the hospital. Will lived for the moments he would spend with these special people: they were like his little Angels. The creative things they made with Will are such precious treasures to us – we cling on to them more than anything.
Unsurprisingly, these creative therapists are extremely stretched amongst the children who need their care and attention and sadly they don’t work at weekends which can be a particularly lonely time in isolation.
Creative outlets and play are vital for children during their treatment journey. We want to fund much more staffing in this area so that more children can benefit from these little life Angels.
Little Hero is providing an Art Therapy person to go into the hospital wards on as many weekends as possible to do pottery and other creative activities with the children. But we need more. Especially during COVID when children are isolated for weeks at a time.
Pottery hampers
Will would often spend weeks at a time in isolation due to infections or undergoing treatment. This was incredibly hard for a 6 year old boy who was use to going to school and playing with his friends for 7 hours a day.
We were so lucky to meet Jess, the owner of Mini Potters, who would often bring us pottery to do in hospital. We were so incredibly grateful for the distraction and focus this bought us during isolation, and these items are now our most treasured possessions.
Little Hero have now partnered with Mini Potters to provide potter hampers to children in hospital. Jess will be delivering pottery hampers and collecting them on a regular basis to be glazed and returned to the families.
Just £5 a month could fund an art therapist for a day!
Please help us continue to support these children and families during such a isolating and lonely time.
Whilst COVID has made life a little more challenging for all of us, it has made life particularly difficult for children going through treatment.
